Funded training
Career Boost
Career Boost is the Queensland Government's funding program for higher-level training. It subsidises one qualification at certificate IV, diploma or advanced diploma level (or a higher-level apprenticeship or traineeship), plus up to two skill sets in priority industries.
It's built for people stepping up: an experienced support worker moving into a certificate IV role, someone adding a specialist skill set to the qualification they already have, or a worker whose next job needs a credential the last one didn't. National College of Skills is approved to deliver Career Boost subsidised training in ageing and disability support.
Am I eligible?
You can access a Career Boost subsidised qualification through the general (classroom-based) pathway if you:
- are 15 or older
- are no longer at school
- permanently reside in Queensland
- are an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrants), a New Zealand citizen, or a temporary resident with a valid visa and working rights on a pathway to permanent residency
- don't already hold a certificate IV or higher qualification (including a university qualification) completed in the last 10 years
- aren't currently enrolled in another qualification funded by the Department of Trade, Employment and Training, even one on hold or deferred.
The certificate IV bar doesn't apply to skill sets. If you already hold a certificate IV or higher, you can still access up to two subsidised priority skill sets. That's what they're for.
Some courses also carry their own entry requirements set by industry or the training package. For example, our certificate IV courses require an existing Certificate III in Individual Support. Entry requirements are listed on each course page.
For a higher-level apprenticeship or traineeship, you need to be employed under a registered Queensland training contract in an eligible qualification.
What you can access
- One subsidised qualification (certificate IV, diploma or advanced diploma). You can't complete two qualifications under Career Boost, so choose deliberately; plus
- up to two subsidised skill sets in priority industries.
No more than two government-funded apprenticeships or traineeships can be completed in any 10-year period, counting places funded under earlier programs. Using your Career Boost place affects your future access to subsidised training, so we'll talk it through with you before you enrol.
Concessional rates
The concessional co-contribution fee applies if you hold a Health Care Card, Pensioner Concession Card or Veteran Card (or are the listed partner or dependant of a card holder), provide an official Commonwealth concession form, identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, have a documented disability, or are from a non-English speaking background. A hardship fee-waiver process is available at enrolment. The fee can be paid by an employer, family member or another organisation, but not by us.

Fees shown are the total co-contribution for the course, with enrolment, tuition and materials included. Funding is subject to eligibility confirmation with the Department of Trade, Employment and Training. Enrolling in a subsidised course uses one of your subsidised training places under the program.
The fee is the total cost: enrolment, tuition and materials included, with no additional mandatory charges. Where a fee varies by delivery location or electives, the exact fee per offering is on the course page. No more than 30% of your co-contribution fee is payable upfront.
Before you enrol
Funding is subject to eligibility confirmation with the Department of Trade, Employment and Training. Enrolling uses your Career Boost entitlement. You may be asked to complete Queensland Government surveys about your training. Our fees and refunds policy applies, including a full refund of your co-contribution fee if you cancel before training begins.
