Funded training

Queensland Government subsidised training

National College of Skills is a Skills Assure Supplier, approved by the Queensland Government's Department of Trade, Employment and Training to deliver subsidised training under the Career Start and Career Boost programs.

If you're eligible, the government pays most of the cost of your course. You pay a set co-contribution fee. Every approved course, delivery location and fee is listed on the program pages and on each course page, so you know the full cost before you enrol. For some students, training is fee-free.

Skills Assure. Proud to be a Queensland Government subsidised training provider.

The programs

Career Start is for entry-level training: certificate III qualifications, apprenticeships and traineeships at certificate II and III, and foundation skills. If you're starting out, returning to work, or changing direction, this is usually the program that applies to you. → Career Start eligibility and courses

Career Boost is for higher-level training: one certificate IV or above qualification, or a higher-level apprenticeship or traineeship, plus up to two priority skill sets. If you're already working and want to step up, this is your program. → Career Boost eligibility and courses

Apprenticeships and traineeships run through both programs: you earn a wage while you train under a registered training contract with your employer. → Traineeships and apprenticeships

Before you enrol: what subsidised training means for you

  • Funding is subject to eligibility. We confirm your eligibility with you before enrolment, and final approval rests with the Department of Trade, Employment and Training.
  • Your entitlement is limited. Under Career Start you can access up to two subsidised training places (the order matters; see the program page). Under Career Boost you can access one subsidised qualification plus up to two skill sets. Enrolling in a subsidised course uses one of these places and can affect your access to subsidised training in future.
  • Fee-free means fee-free. Where training is listed fee-free for your cohort, you pay nothing. We never advertise training as free when a co-contribution fee applies.
  • You may be surveyed. The Queensland Government may ask you to complete surveys about your training goals, experience and outcomes.
  • Our refund policy explains refunds in full, including a full tuition refund when you withdraw at least a week before your agreed start date, and unit-based refunds for trainees.
